From Brighton to Frome

I have been very touched by everyone's stories and some of the delightful common themes running through them.......thank you, they gave me joy and some even made me laugh out loud despite feeling so sad at losing Peter.

I met Peter in Brighton in 2011 through my sister Caroline Williams, she thought we might get on having a few common interests, and I was no longer commuting to London and had a litttle time on my hands. These common interests turned out to be manyfold, and, like Jo, mostly discussed at his kitchen table with Pussoid lounging across it! Peter was often a bit up and down but we always managed to have a challenging and creative chat, usually over coffee and buns. He re-introduced me to Philip Glass and Keith Jarrett, and in turn, I gave him Jan Garbarek. We had some great adventures....we went to see Ballet Rambert, visited many gardens, churches, galleries and historic houses - he helped me with my voice projection when I was training to work at Charleston, and I played critic to his excellent poetry and writing - just one of his many talents. He was very encouraging to me to start doing my own creative work again.

When my sister Caroline and her husband Hugh, moved from Sussex down to Somerset, I decided to move down, too. After some endless gentle suggesting to Peter about maybe considering moving........and much talk of narrow boats, I bluntly said to him one day that I was going down to Frome to look for somewhere to live, and why didn't he come down to Somerset, too! A weekend trip to Frome during the festival convinced him (I know Peter wasn't very keen on signs and symbols but the famous Vulcan bomber flew over us as we were driving down, and it felt auspicious!!). Caroline, Hugh and I looked at a few houses and flats with Peter, and we came upon Spinningmill Cottages in Goulds Ground, which hit a chord. I found him an estate agent in a Brighton who took on the selling of his old flat, and after a mammoth effort, Peter finally made it down to Frome two years ago.

I am thrilled he made the move, and that he experienced the joy of all the new friends, interests and happiness that came with it. Lots of powerful memories. Peter, you will be missed.

With much love to Margaret and family and all Peter's friends.
